Undergraduate Research Participation

Undergraduate Research Participation

University of Waterloo undergraduate students are invited to participate in Psychology studies conducted in our Department by Psychology faculty and student researchers. We conduct studies investigating various aspects of human psychology including behaviour, social interaction, information processing, memory, cognition, learning and behavioural neuroscience. Studies typically involve computer tasks (in the lab) or online surveys (on the web) and take anywhere from 15 minutes to 2 hours. Students find these studies to be quite interesting and insightful. All studies have been reviewed by, and received ethics clearance through the Office of Research Ethics.

Students may participate through 1 of 2 Participant Pools:

  1. Research Experiences Group (REG) - for students in Psychology courses

Since experiential learning is highly valued in our Department, UW students in undergraduate Psychology courses can earn bonus credits toward their final grade through research experience. Research experience can be acquired in two ways; i) by reviewing research articles or ii) by participating in Psychology studies. For more information on the REG Participant Pool please visit the REG website http://www.arts.uwaterloo.ca/~regadmin/.

If you have any questions about REG please contact regadmin@uwaterloo.ca

  2. Psychology Paid Pool (PSYCpool) - for students in non-Psychology courses

UW students in non-Psychology courses can participate in Psychology studies and in appreciation of their time they will receive monetary or other remuneration such as movie tickets, entry into draws for cash or prizes, gift certificates, gift bags or candy, chocolate bars etc.

If you think you might like to participate in some of our studies please take a few minutes to complete the registration form where you will provide contact and demographic information. The online registration form URL: https://artsweb.uwaterloo.ca/~psycpool/PSYCpool_RegistrationForm/

A researcher will contact you by phone or email to invite you to participate in a study. Participation is voluntary and you may decline to participate if you wish. Your name and contact details will be retained in a database on a secure server to which only authorized Psychology researchers have access. The database will be deleted at the end of each school term. If you signed up in a previous term you will need to sign up again for the current or upcoming term. You may also ask to be removed from our database at any anytime.

If you have any questions about PSYCpool please contact psycpool@uwaterloo.ca.
