  • Krista Navalta - "I am attending Humber College in the Fall for their graduate studies certificate program in Human Resources. I am specializing in Recruitment, Training and Development and my final destination/goal is to work for HR services at Pearson International Airport. I am currently preparing to write my National Knowledge Exam this summer and hope to write it in the late Fall or New Year. I am taking the rest of the required courses at Humber. However, I also would recommend taking the remaining courses at Wilfrid Laurier University, they are offered mostly in Fall and Winter term though. I am, hopefully, going to start gaining experience for the 5 year requirement (towards my CHRP) at UW Career Services, working on recruitment and career and resume building with Mrs. Gillert. The attraction to the Humber program to me was the co-op opportunity in the second semester of study. The co-op placements are within the GTA, where I believe more opportunities lie for Human Resources students. I also would like to experience smaller classes, more detailed and specialized courses and one-on-one professor-to-student interaction (college setting)."

  • Alexandra Sleghel - "I got a position with Scotia Capital (division of Scotiabank) in Human Resources. My position title is Recruitment Co-ordinator, Scotia Capital and Global Risk Management Recruitment. This is an entry level role; I assist in coordinating the campus recruitment (co-op, summer, new graduate) as well as experienced-level recruitment for Scotia Capital."

  • Shaena Singh - "At UW I was in the Arts and Business Co-op program, majoring in Legal Studies and specializing in HR. I will now be attending Wilfrid Laurier Univeristy in August 2010 to complete my MBA, specializing in Human Resources Management. This is a one year program. I hope to complete the remaining 5 classes that I need to get my CHRP while completing my MBA."

  • Melanie Koso - "I'm doing my Master of Industrial Relations at Queen's University next year."

2009

October 2009 Convocation

26 students graduating with an HRM academic plan:

  • HRM Minor: 10
  • HRM Option: 4
  • HRM Specialization - Psych Majors: 3
  • HRM Specialization - Arts & Business Majors: 7
  • HRM Diploma: 2

June 2009 Convocation

  • HRM Minor: 30
  • HRM Option: 22
  • HRM Specialization - Psych Majors: 27
  • HRM Specialization - Arts & Business Majors: 39
  • HRM Diploma: 1

Future plans of those graduating June 2009 (I welcome further feedback from our graduating students!):

  • Becky Wroe - "I completed my HRM diploma requirements post-degree (BSc '06). I've been working full-time for the Federation of Students for five years now, and will continue to do so (utilizing my skills developed through courses completed in pursuit of the HRM diploma for volunteer management and management of my staff) for an undetermined period. In the interim I am also working to complete the CHRP Academic requirements through courses at Conestoga College, with hopes of completion by May 2010".

  • Stephanie Braid - "I am continuing on in the field of HR. I have been accepted to George Brown College for their postgraduate HRM certification program. This program includes 8 month of classes followed by a 4 month co-op work term. Afterward, I will be qualified to (and intend to) write my CHRP. Ultimately, I hope to find a job in Talent Management. I am very excited for what the future may bring! Being able to pursue an HRM Specialization option at U of W has been a fabulous experience for myself personally".

  • Joe Mikac - "I finished my undergrad in December and finished with the HRM Minor.  In January, I became a member of HRPA and finished 3 courses in HR (Occupational Health & Safety, Labour Relations and Compensation). I completed the other 6 courses at Waterloo. I am now eligible to write the CHRP in the fall".

  • Jill Campbell - "Since graduating, I've been hired on full-time by Shell Canada Ltd. I work in Human Resources as a Graduate Recruiter, responsible for hiring co-op students and new grads like myself. I plan on pursuing the CHRP designation in the future".

  • Francesco Robles - "I will be pursuing a Bachelor of Education. Hopefully my HR preparation will assist me in better dealing with colleagues when I will be a principal (!), but most of all with students when I will be a counselor".

  • Brittney Armstrong - "I'm pursuing further education in HR before completing my CHRP designation. I'm attending Conestoga College in the fall for their one year post-grad coop in Human Resource Management".

  • Joanna Woo - "After graduating in June, I completed the last three required courses and wrote the NKE in October 2009. I will be starting at Home Depot as a Store Staffing Coordinator in their Human Resources department in January 2010. As a CHRP Candidate now, I have plans to write the NPPA in May 2010 and will hopefully return to UW for a Masters of Applied Science in I/O Psychology in the future
