- Required courses (four) :
- AFM 123*/ARBUS 102 or both of AFM 101 and 102*
- HRM 200*
- at least two of:
- HRM 301*
- PSYCH 338*
- PSYCH 339*
- PSYCH 340*
- Remaining (to a total of seven) from:
- One of ENGL 210F, PACS 202, or PHIL 215/ARBUS 202
- PSYCH 399
- PSYCH 439
- PSYCH 462
- PSYCH 467
- PSYCH 499C (see Note 7)
- Note: Additional topics courses may be available through Wilfrid Laurier University. All cross-registration requests are subject to the approval of the HRM advisor and space availability (see Note 11 below)
NOTES:
- Students in academic plans in Management Studies are precluded from taking HRM academic plans.
- Please check the prerequisites for the above courses.
- For further information, refer to the HRM website.
- Students are encouraged to complete HRM 200 before enrolling in Psych 339 or Psych 340. Note that second year students are given priority enrolment in HRM 200.
- Students who have completed an HRM Diploma or the course requirements for the CHRP designation, or who have graduated from a college or university HR or Business program are precluded from enrolling in the HRM Minor, Option, or Specialization.
- Students are advised to review the CHRP requirements before finalizing their HRM course selections.
- Topic and supervisor must be approved by the HRM Advisor. Only 0.5 unit of the Honours Thesis course, PSYCH 499 A/B/C, may be counted toward the HRM Specialization.
- The courses with asterisks have been approved by the Human Resources Professional Association (HRPA) toward the Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation. The HRM Program Office will continue to monitor the CHRP requirements and attempt to notify students via email and this website of any changes we are made aware of, but ultimately it is the students' responsibility to ensure they have completed the coursework requirements for the CHRP designation.
NOTE: Psych 340 was approved effective Fall 2006 (the Fall 2005 offering was not approved).
- There are no restrictions regarding the double counting of required courses between the HRM Specialization and your other academic plans (e.g., major, minor, option). Under no circumstances can an individual course satisfy course requirements in more than two academic plans.
- No exceptions to the above requirements will be made without the prior approval of the HRM Advisor.
- Of particular interest to HRM students are the three remaining courses required for the CHRP designation: BUS 414W - Occupational Health and Safety, BUS 448W - Strategic Compensation in Canada, and BUS 464W - Labour Relations. See "Notes for the HRM plans" on the 'Academic Plans' website for enrolment information.
NOTE: Effective 25 June 2009 the Laurier Business Office has agreed to waive the BUS 121W pre-requisite for these courses. The pre-requisites will be revised to:
"BUS 354 or (HRM 200; One of AFM 131, BUS 111; One of BUS 288, MSCI 211, PSYCH 338)".
Warning: WLU will not permit access to any BUS course to any student without the proper prerequisites. Important information including required pre-requisites for WLU courses for UW students can be found in the on-line undergrad calendar. Pay close attention to the prerequisite chain early enough in your program that you can complete them on time.
- Psych 439 will be offered Winter 2010 and Winter 2012 (but NOT Winter 2011).
