The UW Centre for Mental Health Research The University of Waterloo's (UW) Centre for Mental Health Research, part of the Psychology Department, offers short-term and long-term therapy for adults with anxiety, mood and interpersonal problems. We also offer treatment for children with mood and behavioural problems, either through one-on-one therapy with the child or through assisting caregivers in developing and implementing behavioural management programs. We offer services to adults and children in the tri-city area and do not have a specific geographical 'catchment' area. |

Our Therapists Our therapists are senior Ph.D. students in our clinical psychology program. Our students begin working as therapists in the clinic after they undergo two full years of thorough and demanding supervised training. All clinical work is conducted under the direct supervision of the clinical division faculty, all of whom are Certified Psychologists who are actively involved in clinical work (see our Clinical Division web page). We also employ practicing psychologists in the community who have special expertise in the kinds of problems we treat to supervise cases. This enables us to provide service for a wide variety of client concerns. |

Our Clinical Training Program The UW Clinical Psychology program is one of the oldest training programs in Canada and is accredited by the Canadian and American Psychological Associations. This means that our clinical training meets the highest standards of quality and ethical practice. Our students come to us with outstanding academic records from their undergraduate programs and are highly competitive for academic and clinical positions when they complete training here. UW graduate students are also distinguished by consistently achieving top scores on the Exam for Professional Practice in Psychology, a licensing exam required by licensing boards in the US and Canada. |
