WAITING LISTS AND COURSE OVERRIDES FOR ENROLMENT IN PSYCHOLOGY COURSES SPRING 2012

For a 'course override' to enrol in course and/or to get your name on a waiting list for enrolment, contact the Department/Academic Unit offering the course. Not all Departments/Academic Units conduct waiting lists.

For enrolment difficulties for Psychology courses, read on. Note that the instructions vary by course.

GENERAL INFORMATION REGARDING COURSE ENROLMENT AND ENROLMENT DIFFICULTIES

Last day to add on-campus courses for Spring 2012 is Monday May 14, 2012.

Last day to add online courses for Spring 2012 is Monday May 7, 2012.

In general, course enrolment will be subject to space availability and self-enrolment on Quest. When dropping/adding courses, suggest that you use the 'course swap' feature on Quest to do this instead of the course drop/add feature (this is a more accurate test of space availability than checking the Schedule of Classes). 'Swap' is a conditional statement telling Quest not to drop X course unless Y course is added successfully.

If the total enrolment in a course equals the enrolment limit for the course, you won't be able to self-enrol in the course because it is full. If available openings in a course are only available for a target group that you don't belong to (check the enrolments and limits on the reserve caps), you'll get a message from Quest that the course is full and your enrolment request will be unsuccessful. In either case, check Quest frequently during your enrolment appointment (and during open enrolment if necessary) for an opening because others are dropping and adding courses also.

If Quest indicates that 'dept permission is required' to enrol in a course, you can't self-enrol on Quest even if there appears to be an opening in the course because e.g., current openings are being saved for those on waiting lists or a special course application form is required to enrol in the course. Contact the Department/Academic Unit offering the course for details (for Psych courses see details in sections below).

REQUESTS TO ENROL IN THE FOLLOWING SPRING 2012:
PSYCH 101 ONLINE, 211 ONLINE, 312 ONLINE, 338, 339, 354

Purpose of waiting Lists for uWaterloo Psychology Courses:

  • to allow the Psychology Dept to prioritize enrolment requests when course/sections become full and/or when the spaces allocated for those not enrolled in the Psych Major become full,

  • also for handling enrolment requests for high demand courses from students who don't meet the course requisites (i.e., any of prerequisite, corequisite, antirequisite) while maintaining priority enrolment for Psychology Majors until the start of term.

General information about Waiting Lists for Enrolment in uWaterloo Psychology Courses:

  • We are not allowed to take requests by telephone for course enrolment or for waiting lists requests. You must follow the instructions below fully. Incomplete requests will not be processed.

  • A waiting list request does not guarantee enrolment. Suggest that you enrol in a back up course.

  • Information regarding the number of waiting list requests received/satisfied for a particular course does not show on the Schedule of Classes.

  • Waiting list requests for uWaterloo Psych Courses will be prioritized at the discretion of the academic advisors in the Psych UG Office. Those on waiting lists will not be informed of their position on waiting lists.

  • If there are openings in a uWaterloo Psych course after waiting list requests have been satisfied, those remaining openings will be made available to students for self-enrolment on Quest up to the deadline for course enrolment (see deadlines on the top of this page). Check Quest frequently for openings. See the 'General Information' about enrolment difficulties at the top of this website for further details.

  • It is your responsibility to inform us if you want your name removed from any waiting lists.

Priority Order of Waiting List Requests for uWaterloo Psychology Courses:

  • uWaterloo Psych Majors and applicants to the Psych Major receive highest priority on the waiting lists followed by those who are officially enrolled in the Psych Minor.

  • uWaterloo students typically get higher priority on the waiting list than those attending uWaterloo on Letter of Permission or Cross-Registration.

  • Those who do not have the prerequisite(s) for admission to the course requested will be given the lowest priority on the waiting list.

Information That Must be Included With All Waiting List Requests for
Psych 101 Online, 211 Online, 312 Online, 338, 339, 354
:

A) Include your last name in the subject line of the e-mail message followed by the course that you want so that waiting list requests can be sorted and handled as quickly as possible.
Sample subject line: Jones - Psych 207 On-Line Winter 2012 waiting list.

B) Include all of the following information with each request that you make to be on a particular waiting list:

  • full name
  • ID number
  • email address
  • current academic plan(s) and year (e.g., Honours Economics 2B) PLEASE do not declare that you are enrolled in the "Psychology Minor" unless the Psych Minor plan appears on your unofficial transcript on QUEST.
  • program applying to (if applicable)
    Notes:
  • course number and the "class number" (i.e., the computer code for the course that appears on the Schedule of Classes) for the course(s) you are requesting to be enrolled in.
Note: If you request to be on more than one waiting list, please make it clear in your message how many of the courses from the list you actually want to be enrolled in (e.g., want 1 of 3) and the priority order of your choices. If, for example, you indicate that you want 1 of 3 courses and you are admitted to one of these choices, your name will be removed from the other waiting lists regardless of whether or not you were admitted to your first choice. These procedures are necessary in order to cope with the large number of requests from students to be on waiting lists and the deadlines for getting course materials to students who are enrolling in on-line courses.
  • course number and the "class number" (i.e., the computer code for the course) for the course that you want dropped (if applicable) if you gain entry to the desired course. Back up choices are recommended.

  • send requests to the Psychology Undergraduate Course Request Account Monday April 16 through Friday April 27 only:
    psychug@uwaterloo.ca

  • Requests received before or after those dates will not be considered.

  • Please do not submit duplicate requests. Doing so will not increase your chances of getting the course and slows down the processing of the waiting list requests.

  • We will monitor course enrolments and waiting list requests for Spring 2012 from those who are not in the Psychology Major or Minor beginning late April and will contact people on the waiting list to confirm their enrolment if and when space becomes available. Those whose requests are not satisfied will not be contacted.
